He is a boy of sixteen. At that age, sense weighs for little, against lust and love and honor. He chose the girl’s honor over his own.
#way to textually rip the thesis of robb’s characer to shreds hbo #he chose the girl’s honour over his own; not his own selfish desire for love over the good of his men + cause #like #actual following in his father’s footsteps of self-destructive honour not self-destructive love #actually following in his father’s footsteps of self-destructive honour and compassion over pragmatic self-serving of desires #there’s a serious difference and it actually impacts and shifts the entire trajectory of his arc and the tragedy of the red wedding #and makes it lesser in a way; brings the motive behind his choices and frey choices closer together and thus corrupts the contrast that b… #builds the horror of it?
#robb stark chose his own honor too #he saw his father’s mistakes and refused to make the same #he will not father a bastard #he will not ruin jeyne’s honor #he will not ruin his own honor #he saw what fathering a bastard did to his family #(to ned to jon to catelyn to HIM as well) #and he will not make that mistake
1) I totally agree with the above that Robb was also choosing his own honor. It seemed more honorable to him to stand by his mistakes and take responsability than to marry Jeyne to a bannerman and pretend nothing happened.
2)I really think Robb is a prime example of someone who tries so hard to be like daddy that they end up not being like daddy at all. Many of Robb’s choices were clearly the opposite of what Ned Stark would ever have chosen/ striven to do in that situation… Crowning himself king, sending a former hostage as an envoy, breaking an essential marriage contract, not listening to Cat’s council… not trading a hostage for Sansa and Arya.
Mostly, remember that when confronted with a choice between his family’s security and his own honor, Ned choose the former. (Twice, if in the end we find out he really had an affair wish Ashara Dayne or Betsy or Wylla or someone else)
IMO out of the Stark children it is Sansa who is most like her father.
